Public Benefits Overview

June 19–20, Pasadena
December 4–5, San Francisco
Everyone who works with low income people needs basic knowledge of
public benefits law. Economic security issues often are intertwined with
client problems in every major practice area—civil rights, consumer,
disability, education, employment/labor, family, health, housing, and
immigration law. Behind most evictions, debt collections, or
dissolutions, for example, lurk important benefits issues. Whatever your
specialty, high quality service and ethical obligations demand
familiarity with the issues covered in this learning program.
Public Benefits Overview
presents the key eligibility requirements of major public benefit
programs for low income people by using a unique identifying issue tool.
It focuses on CalWORKs, Food Stamps, General Assistance/Relief,
Medi-Cal, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Emergency Benefits for
people in crisis.
